Rifflandia Kicked Ass!

A big thanks and congrats to everyone involved in what was possibly the greatest event put on in Victoria in all my years here. The local community of small business, amazing volunteers, and fantastic fans proved that we really can pull off such an important event for our city. Nick, Casey, and Demitri thank you so much for sticking your neck out and going for it. You totally kicked ass!

For the Love of Coffee

Head down to Crystal Gardens this weekend for a great coffee event called For the Love of Coffee. You’ll likely see a few Habit folks around there, including John Ohrn, who will be one of the judges at this year’s regional barista competition.

Victory Launch Party

A large number of us attended the Victory Barber & Brand launch party on Sunday evening. A select few even got a shave. A big thank-you and sincere congrats to Matt and his crew, who have been anticipating the launch of this spot for a long while.

Make a point of swinging into Victory Barber & Brand at your next opportunity. It is immediately one of the coolest spaces in Victoria…designed by Caleb and his wife Hanahlie of Caste, who designed our two locations. A big congrats to everyone involved.

Defending Our Backyard 2011

For the last two years we have been big supporters and fans of this food festival put on by the Island Chefs Collaborative. Basically, its a great day of sampling the best food and drink the island has to offer.

It was held at Fort Rodd Hill on June 12. What makes it even more fun is each year we have formed a bike gang to ride the Galloping Goose Trail out there. This allows us to not only avoid the traffic and parking but also have a fun (albeit tipsy) ride. For more info on the festival, visit the ICC website.

Hope to see you in the bike gang next year!

Brasilian Coffees Have Arrived

Fazenda Samambaia Logo

The Brasilian coffees we picked have finally arrived.

Back in July of 2010, Shane (the owner of Habit) and Drew (the roaster of our fine coffees) travelled to Brasil with Atlas Coffee Importers to tour several coffee farms and buy some great coffees.

We were hosted by Santo Antonio Estates, a collective of over 20 small coffee farmers in Minas Gerias. We ended picking up 2 different coffees from Fazenda Samambaia. Be sure to pop in to try one of these interesting coffees. Think chocolate and peanut skins!

Habit Rides to Seattle

Enbridge Ride to Conquer Cancer Logo

In June, a few of us rode our bikes from Vancouver to Seattle as part of the Ride to Conquer Cancer.

The Enbridge Ride to Conquer Cancer is a unique, two-day cycling event that took place on June 18-19, 2011. It is a unique fundraising event benefiting the BC Cancer Foundation, a BC-based charity that raises funds for the BC Cancer Agency, which is a province-wide, population-based cancer control organization.

The funds raised for the event stay in BC and benefit cancer patients across the province.

Habit Atrium Late Night

Espresso on the Moon

Starting May 17 2011, Habit Atrium will be open until 10pm seven days a week. We’ve recently upped our game in the treats department, too. We’re now carrying some high-end chocolates from around the globe. They are all incredible in their own way, and hope that they might serve as an after-dinner treat to go along with an evening espresso.

See you soon!
